The Union League of Philadelphia is pressing forward with plans to present its highest honor to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Tuesday, despite protests from members who want to cancel the event.
History:
The Union League was against slavery and ponied up all the money to outfit and arm the Union Army.
The Philadelphia Club members started with the Union club’s men who wanted to protect the slavery business.
In October a 107-member group called the Concerned Members of the Union League wrote a letter to then-club president Craig Mills saying the DeSantis event “poses outsized immediate and long-term reputational risk to the Union League,” The Inquirer reported.
