@JasonPLowery People will literally create an entire new industry called “cryptocurrency” & systemically enslave themselves to anonymous pre-miners & self-awarding computer programmers before they will admit they were wrong about #Bitcoin. If ranking/voting systems actually worked at keeping people secure, I wouldn’t have a job (i’m active duty military) Proof-of-Stake is fundamentally a reversion back to the belief that ranking/voting systems alone (w/o physical power) is fully sufficient at protecting members against systemic exploitation, despite 6,000 yrs of written testimony called history that it isn’t. There’s two big differences between voting with physical power & voting w/stake that dramatically affect systemic security. (1) physical power is exogenous to the system it’s used in, stake is endogenous. Thus, physical power can’t be systemically exploited whereas stake can. If a voting/ranking system were enough to protect users against systemic exploitation, then we wouldn’t be in the situation that ETH2.0 ostensibly solves (using a voting/ranking system) in the 1st place.
Physical power defends against systemic exploitation, kinetic or electric. There’s two ways to physically preserve your access to your property & defend yourself against systemic abuse: kinetically (force against mass) & electrically (charge across resistor). If ppl aren’t allowed to use the latter, they’ll use the former. PoS is going to go down as one of the silliest strategic security design blunders of the 2000’s.
There can only be one solution to the Byzantine Generals Problem. If the generals are not in agreement on a singular protocol, they will die. They will form consensus on the longest proof of work chain: #bitcoin
