Trump: “I’ve eliminated the Department of Education but I am not eliminating the student loans.”
The carnage continues. We. Warned. You.
Pres. Trump is expected to direct his secretary of education to dissolve the U.S. Department of Education, according to sources familiar with a draft executive order.
President Trump is set to issue an executive order directing Secretary Linda McMahon to begin dissolving the Department of Education
TRUMP: “I told Linda, I hope you do a great job & put yourself out of a job. I want her to put herself out of a job.”
Just restating the simple point: President lacks the constitutional authority to close a department created by Congress. Full stop. Both the creation and on-going funding of these Depts are LAWS not suggestions. This is criminal conduct. And McMahone is the face of it.
Public ed is the nation’s largest government sector—larger than the entire fed gov. Smallest fed agency is Dept of Ed, consuming a meager 0.31% of all fed wages. Anyone who thinks DoE is running/ruining our schools, rather than states, should do the math.
Look at a map of states with high education rates, and it lines up with an election map.
The Department of Education is a civil rights agency established and funded by Congress. It cannot be abolished by presidential fiat. But that won’t stop Trump from trying to realize this Christian nationalist dream.
Linda McMahon said she was going to reform the Education Department. It’s set to shut down this week. Once again the less well off are fucked. Starting to see a pattern here.

If Trump gets his way and guts the U.S. Department of Education, 7.5 million students with disabilities will lose access to critical special education services funded by the federal government. The American people did not vote for reckless, chaotic attacks on our children and public schools—and I will fight to ensure every student gets the support they deserve.
Trump EO to drop today to shut down Department of Education:
1. An EO does not undo legislation—which is how DOE was established
2. Trump is reminding us he “loves the poorly educated”
3. Hope Dems have a better response plan than dressing in pink & silently holding arts & crafts.
17 year olds in 2037 when all tap water is 75% sewage and Department of Education is banned will wish for 1968 when they all had to get registered for the draft and fight in Vietnam instead of living with their weapons in the USA.
