The controversial Blackwater founder says he is setting up two bases in China, but his company says “this does not involve armed personnel.”

Erik Prince — founder of the private military company Blackwater, financial backer of President Donald Trump, brother to the new Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and frequent Breitbart radio guest of White House power broker Stephen Bannon — has been offering his military expertise to support Chinese government objectives and setting up two Blackwater-style training camps in China, according to sources and his own company statements.

The move could put him at odds with Trump, who has often taken a hard line against China, and could also risk violating US law, which prohibits the export of military services or equipment to China.

Former associates of the 47-year-old Prince told BuzzFeed News that the controversial businessman envisions using the bases to train and deploy an army of Chinese retired soldiers who can protect Chinese corporate and government strategic interests around the world, without having to involve the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.

Mueller evidence shows Blackwater founder held meeting to create Trump-Russia back channel: report

Special counsel Robert Mueller has evidence showing that a meeting in the Seychelles last year between the founder of a private security company and a Russian official was intended to set up a back channel between the Trump administration and the Kremlin.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that a witness cooperating with Mueller has told investigators that the meeting was set up in advance, apparently contradicting what Erik Prince, the founder of the security contractor formerly known as Blackwater, has told lawmakers about the meeting.

Prince had previously told lawmakers and the press that his meeting with Kirill Dmitriev, a Russian official close with Russian President Vladimir Putin, happened by chance and was not set up ahead of time.

But the witness, a Lebanese-American businessman named George Nader, has testified before a grand jury that the meeting, which took place shortly before President Trump’s inauguration, was, in fact, a planned effort.

Wealth Inequality Is Way Worse Than You Think, And Tax Havens Play A Big Role

In the United States, wealth has become more concentrated since at any time since the “Roaring” 1920s, Zucman says. The richest 1% of Americans currently own a whopping 40% of total household wealth.

“At the global level, wealth is highly concentrated: the top 10% owns more than 70% of the total wealth in China, Europe, and the United States combined; the bottom 50% owns less than 2%; and the middle 40% owns less than 30%,” the paper says.

In the United States, wealth has become more concentrated since at any time since the “Roaring” 1920s, Zucman says. The richest 1% of Americans currently own a whopping 40% of total household wealth.

Zucman identifies another dubious honor for the United States: “No country (apart from Russia) for which estimates of wealth inequality are available has similarly high recorded levels of wealth inequality.”

NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies Seeks Educators and Students for Climate Change Research Initiative

The NASA GISS Climate Change Research Initiative is an opportunity for high school educators and graduate students to work directly with NASA scientists in a NASA research project associated with the science related to climate change.
High school STEM educators participating in this yearlong opportunity will become associate researchers at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and STEM education experts. They will integrate NASA education resources and content into their classrooms while improving STEM education within their communities.
For graduate students, this yearlong opportunity will not conflict with the student’s course work and class schedule during the fall and spring. The internship is considered to be a part-time position that supports the graduate student’s major area of study.
All applicants must be U.S. citizens who reside within a 50-mile radius of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, located in New York City.

Educator Workshop — Comets Close Up

The Rosetta spacecraft is on a 10-year mission to study the comet “67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko” (C-G) and answer questions about comets. Join lead scientists for the Rosetta mission in an educational workshop that explores hands-on activities and resources for engaging students in the science of comets and small bodies.
In this workshop, Rosetta project scientist Bonnie Buratti and project manager Art Chmielewski will share some of the basic physics of comets and discuss how the Rosetta mission was able to land on one for the first time. Hear about the mission’s latest discoveries, see incredible up-close images of the comet, and get the inside scoop on a second landing on the comet scheduled for Sept. 30, 2016.

The target audience for the workshop is formal and informal educators of grades 6-12, but it is open to all educators.
The event will take place Sept. 24, 2016, from8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. PDT at the von Kármán Auditorium at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

REGISTRATION OPEN: Zero Robotics High School Tournament 2016
The Zero Robotics High School Tournament 2016 will take place this fall.
The tournament will offer U.S. high school students the opportunity to design experiments that will be tested in space. Zero Robotics challenges high school student teams to write their own algorithms to fly the Synchronized, Position, Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites, or SPHERES. The competition starts online where, guided by mentors, teams compete to solve an annual challenge. Students can create, edit, share, save, simulate and submit code from a web browser. After several phases of virtual competition, finalists will be selected to compete virtually in a live championship aboard the International Space Station.

Nick Lachey Could Be the Next Billionaire Weed Kingpin

You might remember Nick Lachey from the band 98 Degrees, but it’s even more likely you’ll remember him as Jessica Simpson’s ex-husband and a star on MTV’s show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. What you might not know about Nick is that he is a huge proponent for the legalization of weed in his conservative home state of Ohio.
It turns out the former boyband singer co-owns a 29-acre weed farm just outside of Akron, along with a couple financial executives and a car dealership owner from Texas according to The Washington Post. He along with several other celebrities including designer Nanette Lepore, NBA legend Oscar Robertson, the NFL’s Frostee RuckerPresident William Howard Taft’s great-great-grandnephews  Brothers Woody Taft, a private equity investor, and Dudley Taft Jr., a noted local musician, expressed support Wednesday for the ResponsibleOhio ballot initiative for a constitutional amendment and several others collectively own Ohio’s 10 farms designated for weed production. It is reported each ownership had to put up $4 million to underwrite the ballot campaign and an addition $10 million to purchase farmland and get their farms up and running.
Lachey, along with the rest of the co-owners, all stand to become very wealthy if a certain law passes today in the state of Ohio. Today, the state must vote on a ballot issue 3 which calls for the legalization of marijuana. However, the ballot specifies that a group of 10 farmers would have exclusive rights to weed farming. Basically, all official dispensaries would have to buy their weed from Lachey or one of the other nine farms. So, while pot legalization sounds great, the weed production would be left in the hands of a select few wealthy executive and celebrities which has so far left many torn. If the law passes, one study predicts that these 10 farms would be selling $1.1 billion of pot a year within four years.
