Frances Haugen Whistleblower: Facebook is intentionally misleading the public on its progress against hate speech, violence and misinformation.
So the day after a big and important interview about Facebook occurs, the internet is talking about Facebook’s outage and routing problems and not about the whistleblower and the company’s failure to police hate speech and misinformation. It’s not just that Facebook undermined democracies at home and abroad, made our children more depressed and suicidal, or helped amplify vaccine misinformation. It’s that they knew they were doing it, saw it was benefiting their bottom line — and decided to keep going.
So apparently WhatsApp, and Instagram haven’t crashed but have been turned off globally because of a whistleblower who has gone on air to expose Facebook’s role behind aiding misinformatio that led to the US Capitol Hill riots.

A recent NYU study found Facebook rewarded misinformation publishers even during the election: they got 6x engagement as trustworthy news sites from Aug 2020-Jan 2021. Meanwhile, while the spotlight focuses on Facebook and social media, cable outlets like FOX News spew a toxic brew of 24/7 dangerous misinformation — and nobody talks about regulating them.
