Republican Senators on Twitter today admitting that their strategy was to pack the courts with political conservatives in order to enact an agenda that was too unpopular to pass through an elected, popularly accountable Congress.
Originalism is Bullshit!
Nothing in the Constitution requires Congress to pay for Supreme Court clerks. Or secretaries. Or air conditioning. Better yet, nothing in the Constitution says Justices get lifetime appointments, only appointments for as long as they are in good behavior.
Fun fact: clerks used to be paid out of pocket by the Justices themselves! Alito should prove his adherence to originalism by doing just that. And to take care of all the vacancies on the appellate courts, the SCOTUS justices should be forced to “ride circuit” again and travel to all the districts far and wide to hear cases. We have a long tradition of doing that, and Alito LOVES tradition!
Shouldn’t people be absolutely livid that the Supreme Court just helped the fossil fuel industry destroy our planet? The media often says “in a blow to environmentalists” as if we’re the only ones who live on Planet Earth. Amy Coney Barrett’s father, an attorney for Shell Oil for many years, must be so proud of her!

Democrats need to scrap the filibuster and immediately protect the right to an abortion. The stakes are too high + we have already waited too long. Send me to D.C. and I will proudly cast that 51st vote to eliminate the filibuster + codify the right to an abortion into law.

Trump has been intimidating witnesses by selecting their lawyers and paying their legal fees. It’s no wonder it took Cassidy Hutchinson so long to come forward. We’re still thinking about Jared Kushner and the $2,000,000,000 his new company got from Saudi Arabia after he left the White House.
Roberts, Kavanaugh and Coney Barrett were all on the Bush legal team during the 2000 election recount in Florida. Recall that SCOTUS stepped in to stop the count and give Bush the win over Gore. Although I was angry in 2000 because I knew Gore won, I did not yet grasp the far-reaching consequences.

In 1869, Congress set the number of Supreme Court justices at 9 to align with the fact that there were 9 circuit courts. There are now 13 circuit courts. The Supreme Court has gutted the civil rights of pregnant people, the voting rights of Black people, the sovereignty of tribal nations, the authority of the federal government to enforce regulations, and the ability of states to enact gun safety laws.

Today’s decision is a disappointment, but it’s not a surprise. It’s the result of coordination by the fossil fuel lobby to dismantle progress toward climate solutions. This ruling does not mean we are out of options! We must call on Congress to pass climate legislation.
