Pope Leo XIV has appointed François Pauly, a former top executive at the Edmond de Rothschild group, as the president of the Institute for Works of Religion (IOR), also known as the Vatican Bank, effective April 28, 2026
The former CEO of the very same Swiss bank Edmond de Rothschilds that was searched for an investigation a former French diplomat with ties to Epstein.

Police searched the offices of Swiss bank Edmond de Rothschild as part of an investigation into a former French diplomat who used to work at the bank and was an associate of Jeffrey Epstein.

CEO François Pauly to leave Edmond de Rothschild who had been on the Edmond de Rothschild board since 2016, replaced former CEO Vincent Taupin in June 2021.
Occupying the position of CEO of French-Swiss private banking group Edmond de Rothschild from June 2021, Luxembourg native François Pauly is allegedly set to leave the bank.
François Pauly (61), currently president of Compagnie financière La Luxembourgeoise and former managing director of the Edmond de Rothschild group, will be the new chairman of the supervisory board of the Vatican bank IOR.
As the financial institution announced Wednesday in Rome, François Pauly will be appointed at the supervisory board meeting on April 28. Until then, Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Douville de Franssu (62 years old) remains in his position. He has presided over the Vatican’s financial institution since 2014.
