    Uhhhh…Duhhh…Social Security runs on COBOL and doesn’t use date or time types. Any computer nerd/deep code software programming language geek knows if date unknown, COBOL defaults to 0, which in COBOL equates 1875. Why?
    The epoch year for COBOL is 150 years ago!

    Reminds me of the Unix epoch ‘birth’ date of 01-01-1970. Will also see default of 12-31-1969 when time not synched relative to GMT time zone in other time zones.

    For time stamping as of the time I composed this was 1739644005 seconds = Saturday, February 15, 2025 1:26:45 PM (GMT-05:00).

    Speaking of default date time representations in computer OS/programming languages and software code:

    Dealt with a lot of date issues in computers and OS/programming languages and databases in the run up to Y2K!

    My second home computer after the Atari 8-bit series (800/XL/XE) was the Amiga 500 (and later the Amiga 1200). The AmigaOS had an epoch date of January 1, 1978.

    My old classic Macintosh OS used January 1, 1904 as the epoch date and when I worked on Digital Equipment Corporation’s VAX/Virtual Memory System (remember them?!), it used November 17, 1858 as the epoch date.
