Privacy Bill Allows for ‘Turning Off’ Targeted Advertising
The draft was circulated by Reps. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), the chair and ranking members, respectively, of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, as well as Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee.
Absent from the list of the draft’s backers was Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), chair of the Senate Commerce Committee, which was billed as from “House and Senate leaders.” In a statement, Cantwell signaled she had more than a few issues with the bill. “For American consumers to have meaningful privacy protection, we need a strong federal law that is not riddled with enforcement loopholes,” she said. “Consumers deserve the ability to protect their rights on day one, not four years later [The bill provides a private right of action for violations, meaning users can sue, but only beginning four years after enactment of the act]. Americans also deserve a law that imposes a duty of loyalty on the companies that collect and monetize personal data so that the companies cannot abuse that data.”

NFTs Are Legally Problematic ft. Steve Mould & Coffeezilla

“Programmers are really bad at contingencies.”
Me a programmer: looks up what a contingency is.

“Maybe we never needed to answer the digital scarcity question at all because it was already solved by regular copyright law.” That is a GLORIOUS killing blow to the NFT evangelists, and I love it so much.

KGRI2040/CCRC Joint Symposium: Implication of Ukraine-Russia Digital Conflict on Democracy (June 24, 2022)
https://www.kgri.keio.ac.jp/en/news-event/123924.html

When the war in Ukraine began to unfold, we saw the deployment of psychological manipulation strategies via social  networks by those in power. At the same time, people are also using social media platforms as a means of resistance  against the infringement of sovereignty towards democratic nation-states. Are social networks a tool to defend
democracy or a threat to its existence? Is it still possible to sustain democracy after the emerging conflicts in the digital space?  We invite Professor Lawrence Lessig, who has been vocal about his concern over the threats to democracies posed by social networks, to discuss the implication of Ukraine-Russia digital conflict on democracy.
