NetHappenings Corporate Code of Ethics
Telling the truth cannot be an ethical violation. A “corporate code of ethics” that does not acknowledge this is itself unethical.
“corporate ethics?” Isn’t that a contradiction in terms? I know people claim to advise on corporate “ethics” but they, like members of the President’s Cabinet, are there to repeat what is desired, not what is true.

Meta $14.3B Scale AI bet looks like a flop, Meta researchers say its data is low quality and prefer Surge/Mercor.
> Meta poured $14.3B into Scale AI, bringing CEO Wang and execs to run MSL
> Ex-Scale SVP Ruben Mayer quit Meta after 2 months
> Mayer was left out of TBD Labs, the core AI team
> TBD Labs sources data from rivals Mercor and Surge
> Scale’s crowdsourcing model can’t deliver expert-level data
Two months after making a $14.3B investment in Scale AI, Meta is relying heavily on its competitors to train next generation AI models.

Dr. Hinton deeply regrets helping advance AI to current levels.

Meta’s chief AI scientist Yann LeCun is leaving to build his own AI start-up.
He’s reportedly frustrated with Zuckerberg’s “superintelligence” pivot and wants to pursue his vision of world models — AI that actually understands reality, not just text.

This is how you fire someone when you don’t want to pay what the contract says you must if you terminate them. You simply put the person under someone whom they have no respect for or despise entirely. Zuck is a classic corporate jerk.
Though firing LeCun has become the only choice for Meta since LeCun started to publicly mock LLMs as a path to AGI. He is, of course, right, but acting this way was unethical from the corporate ethics perspective: you don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Hinton quit Google to be able to ethically criticize the tech Google is building. LeCun likely wasn’t familiar with this concept.
Over the summer, Zuckerberg hired Alexandr Wang to lead a new “superintelligence” team at Meta, paying $14.3bn to hire the 28-year-old founder of data-labelling start-up Scale AI and acquire a 49 per cent interest in his company.
Within those wider AI efforts, Zuckerberg also personally handpicked an exclusive team, called TBD Lab, to propel development of the next iteration of its large language models, luring staff from rivals such as OpenAI and Google with $100mn pay packages.
As a result, LeCun, who had previously reported to chief product officer Chris Cox, is now reporting to Wang.
Zuckerberg’s pivot followed the botched release of Meta’s most recent Llama 4 model, which performed worse than the most advanced offerings from Google, OpenAI and Anthropic, while its Meta AI chatbot has failed to gain traction with consumers.
LeCun, however, has long argued that the LLMs that Zuckerberg has put at the centre of his strategy are “useful” but will never be able to reason and plan like humans, increasingly appearing at odds with his boss’s Al vision.
