Scopes Monkey Trial in Texas

Because Texas won’t teach History the public will need to read about it online.

1925, Judge John Raulston gaveled to order The State of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes in the Rhea County Courthouse in Dayton, Tenn. Popularly known as the Scopes Monkey Trial, the case was initiated after high school teacher John Scopes knowingly defied Tennessee’s recently passed Butler Act, which issued a statewide ban against the teaching of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution that the 19th century scientist outlined in On the Origin of Species and The Descent of Man. Prosecuting the case on behalf of Tennessee was famed orator, three-time presidential candidate and avowed Christian fundamentalist William Jennings Bryan. Scopes’s defense was led by the sharp-minded lawyer, early American Civil Liberties Union ally and staunch agnostic Clarence Darrow.

Trump claims credit for the end of Roe v. Wade “I was able to get us to the table by terminating Roe v. Wade. That’s the most important thing that’s ever happened for the pro-life movement,” Trump told The Messenger, “Nobody could have done it but me.

TEXAS

WARNING: Christian nationalists are backing legislation that would force religion into schools by framing it through the lens of school safety. The blame the establishment clause — and a lack of religious teachings — for school shootings and rising crime.

The First Amendment forbids government from promoting one religion over others, but Texas Republicans are trying to force schools to display Ten Commandments, which they don’t even abide by, in every classroom.

Texas can now replace masters level school counselors with chaplains.

Chaplains complete a 48 hour class equivalent to a one credit college course.

Two Patriot Mobile endorsed (Christofascist) candidates won school board seats in Grapevine-Colleyville, Texas. #Christofascism #txlege

#ChristianNationalism and apparently they’re using “school security and safety funds” to pay for these chaplains.

Concerned Parent in North Texas praises new Texas Senate Bill 763 that stops indoctrination in public schools by forcing in uncertified chaplains paid for with safety and security funding!

Taken together, they all were designed to really thwart Brown.” The #SchoolVouchers push has its roots in the fight against desegregation.

It’s no coincidence the Texas GOP is waging war on public schools. Minorities have become the majority; the push to implement vouchers and charters is a way to siphon off money from our ISDs to alienate and marginalize minorities.

Christian nationalist extremists (shown in red), won some school board races in Texas, but they lost many more than they won. The good citizens of Texas are waking up to the threat of Christian nationalism and saying, “Hell, no.” #txlege https://twitter.com/frankstrong/status/1655202418441822211

Important article — shows how Big Oil is looking to cash in on #ClimateCrisis by offering “solutions” in the form of costly, low capacity carbon capture programs that they will operate and profit from. So, make CO2 by selling/burning oil/gas/coal (ka-ching!). And then capture a little of that #CO2 and charge govts the tab (ka-ching!).
Logic professor on how Big Oil’s PR people constantly divert us from focusing on the truly important climate change question: “how can we stop the fossil-fuel industry from destroying the life-sustaining systems of the planet in their quest for profit?”

The reason for secession was the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860.

TRUMP THE LAST CONFEDERATE GENERAL  LOSES IN THE LAST CONFEDERATE BATTLE 2.0

Don’t be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the Grand Old Party! We got revenge murder, tax loopholes for richies and less services for you! We partner with COVID to own the libs by dying! We got kids in cages, and a kid who shot people. Statues! We’re very fine people with guns!

If you’ve been wondering how long the GOP might stay in denial about Trump’s loss, it might be a good time to recall that many of these same individuals are in denial about the loss of the confederacy in 1865

126 GOP signed on. 126 republicans just committed political suicide.

It is not a lack of evidence of election fraud stalling Trump’s victory. It’s a lack of courage and integrity in enforcing our laws. The election fraud hoax will go down as one of the most embarrassing and dishonorable episodes in American political history, and countless Republican officials went along with it and promoted it.

Absolutely incredible — attorneys claiming to be representing the “states” of “New California” and “New Nevada” just filled an amicus brief in support of the Texas – led lawsuit seeking to overturn election results in 4 states

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was written after the Civil War to bar from government any traitors who would seek to destroy the Union. My letter to House leadership today demands that 126 Republicans (and counting) are violating the Constitution.
The text of the 14th Amendment expressly forbids Members of Congress from engaging in rebellion against the United States. Trying to overturn a democratic election and install a dictator seems like a pretty clear example of that.

The @TexasGOP is out with a statement in the wake of the Supreme Court decision, all but calling for secession. “Perhaps law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution.”

Antebellum 2.0 has no economic base.
Antebellum 2.0 must pay for itself carry shitty blue flags.

The USD is the reserve currency of the world and no bank ever lost a war.

What bank in 2020, anywhere on the globe, during the deepest global recession since WWII, in a pandemic, would loan a bunch of racists and fascists money?

Hint: no bank, not even in Russia or China

“Hi, [international bank in some other country]! I’m from the New South and we’d like to fund a war against America.”

“Hmmm… you have a deal.”

“Great! So for next steps…”

(line goes dead)

Onions and Bitcoin.

True story: the result of my Congressional lobbying in 2018 was an Agriculture committee hearing where we had the phrase “blockchain commodity” coined by a member of the committee.

People were like “Why is Ag talking crypto?”

Because THEY approve commodity laws. Not Finance.

Do you ever wake up and say: “gee, I really wish I could trade onion futures today!” Well, you can’t. Because this is America. And in America we don’t let you speculate on onion futures.

Ahhhh… the storied tale of Victor Kasuga and how he cornered the onion market… which is why Bitcoin has no ETF.
Any commodity so narrow in production it can be bought out… is too easy to manipulate.
