Viral Discussion of Smedley Butler’s ‘War Is a Racket’ Book and Testimony on the Business Plot Coup Attempt Against FDR
Major General Smedley Butler, a highly decorated U.S. Marine who received two Medals of Honor, and his 1935 book ‘War Is a Racket,’ where he described U.S. military interventions as serving corporate interests in Mexico, Haiti, Cuba, Central America, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and China. They also reference his 1934 congressional testimony alleging a Business Plot by wealthy oligarchs and the American Liberty League to recruit him for a fascist coup against President Franklin D. Roosevelt, backed by 500,000 men. The discussion notes the lack of punishment for the plotters and draws historical parallels to contemporary events.
In 1934 this man testified to congress that he was approached to lead a coup and replace FDR. The plan had the backing of America’s wealthiest oligarchs along with the backing of 500k men in order to install a fascist dictatorship here in America to match Europe. It is called the business plot. Many of the wealthiest families (who formed the american liberty league) admired, supported, collaborated or outright funded the nazis. All in response to FDR’s new deal government. A lot of these oligarchs worked with the black legion, which was a branch of the kkk that specifically targeted leftist and union organizers. After speaking with Butler, congress deemed the plan not a matter of if but when the backers deemed it expedient. We did nothing to bring these men in for justice because in this country, if you are rich enough, you are untouchable. It was mistake. It was a mistake to not punish the confederates. It was a mistake not to punish these families that planned a coup against FDR and it was a giant mistake not to punish Trump and all those who funded and made Jan 6 possible. We are living through these mistakes now and it is costing us dearly.
