SOCIAL MEDIA
STATS

The share of teens who use Facebook, $META, “has dropped from 71% in 2014-2015 to 33% today,” per PEW.
Meanwhile, the share of teens who say they use Facebook, a dominant social media platform among teens in the Center’s 2014-15 survey, has plummeted from 71% then to 32% today.
YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook. Fully 35% of teens say they are using at least one of them “almost constantly.”
About six-in-ten teens ages 15 to 17 (58%) say giving up social media would be at least somewhat difficult to do. A smaller share of 13- to 14-year-olds (48%) think this would be difficult.

The vast majority of teens have access to digital devices, such as smartphones (95%), desktop or laptop computers (90%) and gaming consoles (80%). And the study shows there has been an uptick in daily teen internet users, from 92% in 2014-15 to 97% today. In addition, the share of teens who say they are online almost constantly has roughly doubled since 2014-15 (46% now and 24% then).

These gaps in teen computer and gaming console access are consistent with digital divides by household income the Center has observed in previous teen surveys.

Many disabled students find that new technology cuts them off from the learning process. To prevent that, colleges are — among other things — designing Web sites and buying computer workstations that meet the needs of disabled students.” In “Making Web Sites Work for People With Disabilities” (by Andrea L. Archbishop Angelo Becciu, special delegate to the Order of Malta.
The idea that the Sovereign Military Order of Malta would lose its religious character is out of the question as its dual mission to defend the faith and serve the poor cannot be separated, Pope Francis’ special delegate to the ancient chivalric institution has said.
In May 5 comments to the Register following last week’s election of Fra’ Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto as the Order’s new interim leader, Archbishop Angelo Becciu said “for a thousand years the Order of Malta has been considered ‘religious’” and so the idea it “would not be religious is unthinkable.”

Steamboat Willie, Minnie, and Tigger

Steamboat Willie will become public domain in 2024, along with Minnie and Tigger

Copyright law dating back to 1909 allowed a work to remain closed off from the public domain for 28 years, with an option to extend another 28 years, according to LUC’s law blog.

But, in the 1970s, Disney successfully lobbied to get that lifespan extended by another 20 years, resulting in a new copyright law: the Copyright Act of 1976.

And 20 years later, with the end of Mickey’s new copyright looming, Disney again lobbied for an extension, leading to the Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998, which was nicknamed the “Mickey Mouse Protection Act” because of Disney’s hand in it, according to LUC’s law blog.

That 1998 law is what all copyrights operate under today. But there hasn’t been another extension to the law, so starting January 1, anyone can use Steamboat Willie.

Your Privacy is at Stake while FISA turns 45

The Biden organization authorities encouraged Congress on Tuesday to recharge a reconnaissance program that the U.S. government has long seen as fundamental in countering abroad psychological warfare, cyberattacks and reconnaissance activities. The program, which is under the Unfamiliar Insight Observation Act, or FISA, is set to terminate at year’s end except if Congress consents to restore it.

Quite a while back this month, President Jimmy Carter marked the Unfamiliar Insight Observation Act (FISA) to limit U.S. insight organizations’ ability to keep an eye on Americans. A 1976 Senate examination had found that the FBI’s COINTELPRO observation had committed many activities — especially against Black People of Color freedom gatherings and other designated associations — that were unlawful, fierce, or basically “detestable in a free society.” FISA was intended to forestall such infringement by directing public safety reconnaissance, yet after 45 years, it has become unequivocally what it expected to control: a “homegrown spying device.” One arrangement of FISA booked to lapse toward the finish of this current year, Segment 702, epitomizes how the ostensible headway made in limiting mass reconnaissance since the 1970s has decisively broke faith since the 9/11 assaults.

Segment 702, sanctioned in 2008, approves the U.S. government to warrantlessly vacuum up and store the interchanges of outsiders abroad who are accepted to have “unfamiliar insight data.” The items in U.S. residents’ and occupants’ instant messages, calls, and messages are gathered “unexpectedly” when they converse with designated individuals. Their correspondences are then put away in a rambling data set, which a few knowledge organizations can get to through “secondary passage look” that evade the established securities ostensibly stood to us. They did as such somewhere around 3.4 multiple times in 2021 alone. Indeed, even after remediation measures, in 2022 the FBI actually looked for U.S. people’s interchanges multiple times, including more than 8,000 that disregarded guidelines, without a warrant.

Legality and espionage don’t mix.
In honor of the Patriot Act law’s 15th anniversary,
here are 15 things you might not know.

Today, pundits of Segment 702 contend that administration specialists ought to at least be expected to get a warrant as a rule prior to perusing Americans’ confidential messages. Indeed, even a free oversight board as of late held that Congress ought to command a court request to get to our correspondences. Area 702 allies, then again, state that doing so would think twice about security.

Segment 702 is a result of the post-9/11 .
Following the 9/11 assaults, U.S. insight and public safety organizations expanded, asserting privileges to hold onto increasingly more of the world’s correspondences with less and less oversight. Segment 702 is intended for foreign intelligence, yet its allies are protecting the option to get to information unexpectedly gathered on U.S. people, without going through significant legal examination.

Three main points of interest with Area 702 exhibit how reusing FISA for mass homegrown reconnaissance after 9/11 has driven insight organizations to rehash the infringement the first FISA was intended to address: the arrangement’s maltreatments, targets, and absence of straightforwardness.

For one’s purposes, similar to the FBI’s COINTELPRO many years prior, Segment 702 has attracted expanding examination because of  uncovered mistakes. COINTELPRO kept an eye on and abused LGBTQ government representatives; messed with Martin Luther Lord Jr’s. room; and utilized wiretaps and infiltrators to subvert organizatons. Today, the FBI has led “steady and inescapable” infringement of even the powerless Segment 702 guidelines, by focusing on Black Lives Matter dissenters,  and family members of FBI examiners without legitimization.
