U.S. abortion ruling reversal sparks calls for privacy laws
Cyberscoop: This week saw the U.S. Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade, ending guarantees that protect a person’s constitutional right to have an abortion. The ramifications are huge — economically, socially, medically, and in terms of human rights alone — for over a hundred million people living in the United States. That’s made the need for a privacy law more urgent; the U.S. is left far behind most other Western democracies, since there are reasonable fears that data — including from period trackers — can be now used as evidence against people. Tech companies have been left scrambling to figure out what the overturning of Wade means for their employees, which matters because in the U.S. healthcare is tied (inexplicably) to employment, though much of Big Tech has remained largely silent about the ruling itself (even Apple, which says “Privacy is a fundamental human right,” has said nothing.) And now there’s renewed focus on what data tech companies collect, especially in light of @motherboard‘s reporting into the sale of location data that can identify people seeking abortions. As EFF’s director of cybersecurity @evacide notes, if companies don’t want their data turned into dragnets, “Don’t have it for sale. Don’t have it when a subpoena arrives.”

US defence contractor in talks to take over NSO Group’s hacking technology Stephanie Kirchgaessner
The US defence contractor L3Harris is in talks to take over NSO Group’s surveillance technology, in a possible deal that would give an American company control over one of the world’s most sophisticated and controversial hacking tools.
Multiple sources confirmed that discussions were centred on a sale of the Israeli company’s core technology – or code – as well as a possible transfer of NSO personnel to L3Harris. But any agreement still faces significant hurdles, including requiring the blessing of the US and Israeli governments, which have not yet given the green light to a deal.

Spyware threatens everyone’s right to free expression
The use of spyware and surveillance tools has been described as ‘the most serious crisis in civil society’. As part of the ARTICLE 19’s Boundaries of Expression series, Jo Glanville explains why these technologies not only threaten the journalists, activists, politicians, and lawyers who are targeted, it has an impact on everyone’s right to free expression.

BITCOIN IS NOT PRIVATE
NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE

Michael Saylor
“I thought I was late to #bitcoin, but apparently not.

Every full Bitcoiner (1 BTC) will be a millionaire in the next few years. Imagine swapping $21,000 today for a $1,000,000 plus later. That’s a great exchange right? Thought of another way, $1,000,000 in a few years costs $21,000 today. Everyone should have this goal.

  1. A reporter posted on Facebook “If you send me your address, I will mail you abortion pills.” Within a minute, Facebook took down the post.

Then she switched the words “abortion pills” with “a gun”. Facebook did nothing. The message stayed up.

  2. Anti-abortion groups and their allies in Republican-led state legislatures are working on legislation to stop people from crossing state lines for abortions. These are the same hypocrites who later pretend to care about freedom.

    1. SUPREMES ROLL BACK DECADES OF RIGHTS — IN 10 DAYS

The conservative majority is rewriting American law in ways that seem wildly out of step with most American values.

  3. The most important revelation was Trump instructing Meadows to talk to Stone and Flynn on the night of Jan. 5th, Meadows planning to go to the Willard ‘warm room,’ being talked out of it by Hutchinson, and calling in instead. This is where it gets real.
What needs more scrutiny are the pre-Insurrection changes Spanky instituted at the Pentagon/DoD. This clearly demonstrates a premeditated plan to hobble any attempt to bring additional LE & National Guard support to the Capitol Police.
Don’t forget the accusation of perjury against General Charles Flynn (younger brother of Michael Flynn)
‘Absolute liars’: Ex-D.C. Guard official says generals lied to Congress about Jan. 6
In a 36-page memo to the Capitol riot committee, Col. Earl Matthews also slams the Pentagon’s inspector general for what he calls an error-ridden report.

Secret Service spox Anthony Gugliemi tells me “the @SecretService has communicated to @DHSgov that any and all personnel that the January 6th Committee requests are available to testify under oath, responding to [Hutchinson’s] new allegations.”
