YOUTUBE – TWITTER – NEURALINK – META – OPT-175B

Timcast IRL, a livestream that serves as a soapbox for the anti-democracy hard right, generates consistent profit for YouTube through the company’s Super Chat function, according to a new study published by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD). YouTube has taken profit from Timcast IRL Super Chat comments that advocate violence.

Verified Twitter “superspreaders” who pushed disinformation about the 2020 election prior to the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Timcast IRL currently claims over 1 million subscribers on YouTube.

‘We Make Mistakes’: Twitter’s Embrace of the Extreme Far Right Twitter gave far-right extremists the platform they needed to plan an attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, and the website, if it maintains its current approach, will likely enable politically motivated violence again in the future.

There’s a new report out on human rights in the age of “neurotech” (think, Elon Musk’s neuralink). Last year, I wrote about the push to enshrine “brain rights,” when Chile became the first country to push such legislation. As scientists learn more about how to manipulate the brain, ethicists say data could one day be collected, sold and exploited.

Meta has released a huge new AI language model called OPT-175B and made it available to a broad array of researchers. It also released a technical report with some truly extraordinary findings about just how dangerous this machine can be. Because the model is large and complex, the authors also admit that they seem to only be able to sort of guess why it’s so noxious. When explaining the reasons for its toxic behavior, they use phrases like, “we suspect” and “this is likely due to.” #AI #OPT175B

Terrifying. These researchers built an AI for discovering less toxic drug compounds. Then they retrained it to do the opposite. Within six hours it generated 40,000 toxic molecules, including VX nerve agent and “many other known chemical warfare agents.”
