As many of you know I will be 80 next month and when I was a teenager after my father died, I went to the head of the Film Editor’s union he was a charter member and editor at Disney on Bambi, Pinocchio, Fantasia. I wanted to be an apprentice and in those days you had to be grandfathered into the unions . I said I was Jack Bachom’s daughter.
He gave me two reasons why I couldn’t be an apprentice to learn that craft.
1. The Film cans are too heavy for a woman to carry.
2. And because of the bad language that goes on in the cutting room.
