Little-Known Surveillance Program Captures Money Transfers Between U.S. and More Than 20 Countries. Law-enforcement agencies across the U.S. have direct access to over 150 million transactions housed at an Arizona nonprofit

Hundreds of U.S. law enforcement agencies have access to a massive database of 150 million money transfers between the U.S. and 20 other countries through a non-profit called TRAC, or the Transaction Record Analysis Center, which was set up by the Arizona attorney general’s office as part of a settlement reached with Western Union back in 2014. Yeah, the feds pretty much strong-armed a bank into spying on us. It was only brought to light by Sen. Ron Wyden’s office, which has been investigating TRAC in recent years.

TRAC is “one of the largest government surveillance programs in recent history.” “The scope of this surveillance program and federal agencies’ role is far greater than initially revealed,” said @RonWyden, who has been investigating TRAC and recently learned of the involvement of other countries far beyond the southwest border. “Ordinary people’s private financial records are being siphoned indiscriminately into a massive database, with access given to virtually any cop who wants it,” said @NateWessler of @aclu, which obtained files revealing the breadth of access among local, state and federal agencies. In an interview, TRAC’s director, Rich Lebel, said the program has led to hundreds of leads and busts related to drug and human trafficking. “It’s a law-enforcement investigative tool … We don’t broadcast it to the world, but we don’t run from or hide from it either.”

Durham opened a criminal investigation into possible financial crimes involving Trump, based on a tip from Italian officials.
While it had nothing to do w/ the Russia inquiry, Barr decided Durham should keep control of it. He never brought charges.

Lanier, a dreadlocked free-thinker credited with coining the term “virtual reality”, has long sounded dire sirens about the dangers of a world over-reliant on the internet and at the increasing mercy of tech lords, their social media platforms and those who work for them.
