Federal appeals court yesterday upheld an 1890 Jim Crow voting law whose drafters explicitly said was designed to keep Black people from voting.
The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals just upheld Mississippi’s 1890 Jim Crow law.
White supremacist lawmakers said they designed it to “eliminate the n**ger from politics.” It continues to disproportionately disenfranchise Black Mississippians for life.

The Mississippi Center for Justice brought the lawsuit, and attorney Rob McDuff said the center will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the ruling handed down Wednesday by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Vangela M. Wade, the center’s president and CEO, said the ruling “doubles down” on years of Black disenfranchisement.
Mississippi has FAR more restrictive voting laws than GA, TX or FL, but most national media has ignored voting difficulties here while focusing on those states. They have NO early voting except very limited absentee options that can require TWO notarizations.
