ACTION ALERT
Tell the Senate: the Solution to Kids’ Privacy Isn’t More Surveillance

The Senate is considering a bill that would force platforms to collect more information on every user, and lead us towards troubling age verification systems that hand over significant power, and private data, to either governmental agencies or  third-party identity verification companies like Clear or ID.me. The bill claims to protect children’s privacy, but these systems wouldn’t just be for kids—all users would likely have to submit personal data just to use many websites and other services, including web browsers, email applications and VPN software.

The bill would also empower individual state attorneys general to decide what topics pose a risk to the  physical and mental health of a minor, and empower them  to force online services to remove and block access to that
material everywhere. This isn’t safety—it’s censorship. Right  now, this bill is in the Senate Commerce Committee. If it gets passed without major changes, it will give new censorship  powers to Big Tech and Big Government.

Privacy for all should be a goal—but this bill would undermine privacy for everyone.

We need to stop it before it gets any further.
