THREAD: Did you know the Biden administration is still maintaining legal positions from the Trump-era?  Eleanor Eagan took a closer look at cases in which the Biden administration has continued Trump’s mockery of the law.
In New Jersey, Biden’s Department of Justice is defending the construction of a natural gas pipeline despite objections raised by several environmental groups. The Biden DOJ, under Civil Division head Brian Boynton, is also defending Betsy DeVos against defrauded student borrowers. On criminal justice, Biden’s Solicitor General has endorsed the expansion of police power and reinforced the doctrine of qualified immunity. At the bare minimum, Biden’s DOJ must drop, reverse, or settle on these Trump-era cases. To meet the needs of this moment, Biden must also reject corporate-captured and tough-on-crime personnel for top DOJ jobs.
