Signal is rolling out payments, adding support for privacy-focused cryptocurrency MobileCoin. (For now in the UK, with ambitions to add to Signal globally.) The goal: a Venmo-like feature that’s as surveillance-resistant as the rest of Signal.

Moxie was a paid advisor to Mobilecoin, which recently took $30M in BTC and ETH from Binance. MOB mainly trades on FTX. It’s centralized. Believed that Moxie was an early advisor to MobileCoin, which makes this appear to be  a money grab on his part. A massive conflict of interest, to put it charitably. Their terms of sale dont inspire confidence. Limits on purchase size and KYC required to purchase. Hardly the private payment they claim.

THREAD 1/ After a good bit of research and some back and forth on Twitter, I wanted to put out a thread with my thoughts on MobileCoin. Tl;dr — MobileCoin uses the Monero protocol to provide strong privacy for users, but sadly relies on Intel hardware guarantees and centralization.
