American Monopolies are killing us

Grocery store workers report
going to work even when they’re sick!

According to “Shelved,” a 2014 UC Berkeley labor research center report on the industry, 65% of California grocery store workers said they’d gone to work while sick, with almost 60% admitting they’d done this for three days or more.

There is no federal requirement for paid sick leave, according to the Department of Labor. Many short-term and part-time employees are also not covered by the Family Medical Leave Act

Corporate Monopolies. Push Biden/Harris to appoint serious anti-monopolists.

The answer to these design problems in globalization is relatively simple. One, break up monopolies, because monopolies are chokepoints. Two, re-localize production with tariffs and friction in trade. Three, reduce debt-heavy firm financing.

The Big Dumb Ship Problem Is Much Worse Than We Think
What Happens If a Big Dumb Ship Falls Over in the Entrance Channel to a Major Port?
Dumb big ships owned by monopolies are the result of dumb big ideas, the physical manifestation of what Thomas Friedman pushed in the 2000s with The World is Flat, the idea that “taking fat out of the system at every joint” led to peace and prosperity.

How to defend a monopoly: donate to a state party, then capture the state government. Activate revolving door for your interests. When a home-state pol rises, bundle for their campaign, because on a host of issues, your lobbyist is a Legislative Director.

The Minnesota senator stresses her humble background on the campaign trail, but her political rise has been funded in part by one of the biggest names in agribusiness.
