The Grateful Dead made the most income of any band. They allowed all their audience to record, swap, share all the music they wanted to record at concerts over all the years the band toured.
Sharing made everyone more money and made everyone richer.
I don’t think enough people appreciate that this is a moment nearly 20 years in the making.
They’re fucking playing an official live concert
I don’t know what’s more embarrassing, Twitch cutting off the music to avoid striking themselves or the fact Metallica could copyright strike themselves
Metallica v Napster is a big reason for internet copyright enforcement being the way it is now so they 100% deserve this.
The current state of Twitch: the official Twitch Gaming channel cut off the live Metallica concert to play 8bit folk music to avoid DMCA.
Fun fact Metallica is among one of the first bands that came forward about people using their music without permission which inevitably led to DMCA laws. If you ask me. They deserve it, which is ironic because it was people using their music without permission, trading, tapes and recording around physically before internet was big which is why they got so big to begin with.
Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Lars Ulrich the greedy? I thought not. It’s not a story the pirate bay would tell you. It’s a copyright legend. Lars Ulrich was a musician, so powerful and so greedy he could use the courts to influence the copyrights to create DMCAs. ~@WuzzinM
He had such a knowledge of copyright that he could even keep the songs he cared about from being pirated. The greedy side of music is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
How great that back in the day, Metallica were the ones bitching the most about having their music protected…
There ya go boys. Your shit is so protected, I’m not allowed to listen to it even when you want me to.
Says more about Metallica and the music industry than twitch imo. For one of the most rebellious, fight the power type bands I find it ironic that their music is so controlled by other mediums
Metallica getting a DMCA strike from Jeff Bezos
We can thank Metallica for the current bullshit state of copyright law, they deserve their own medicine.
