At the time, the committee was met with backlash for its suspected ties to the Communist Party, which many of its famous Hollywood members balked at.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a multipronged effort aimed at lowering drug costs in the United States, including the creation of a “TrumpRx” direct-to-consumer website where Americans can buy medicine at discounted prices and a sweeping deal with Pfizer to reduce the prices of many of its products.
“The United States is done subsidizing the health care of the rest of the world,” Trump said at a news conference. “By taking this bold step, we’re ending the era of global price gouging at the expense of American families.”
Pfizer is the first drugmaker to voluntarily agree to all the demands Trump laid out in a July letter to pharmaceutical company CEOs. The president signaled others might soon follow.
Pfizer will sell drugs to Medicaid and set prices of new drugs at “Most Favored Nation” levels, the lowest price made available in peer countries. It will sell many of its primary care medicines and some specialty brand-name drugs at a 50% savings, on average, at TrumpRx, the company said. And it will expand its domestic manufacturing, while receiving a three-year reprieve on certain tariffs on pharmaceutical imports.
The TrumpRx site, which will not go live until early 2026, will not sell or distribute medications, a senior administration official told reporters Tuesday. Consumers will be able search for their medicines and will be redirected to manufacturers’ direct-to-consumer channels.

A handful of low-educated but relatively well-off conservative white women are doing more damage to American democracy than Russian intelligence ever managed. The numbers don’t lie: in 2016, 0.1% of Twitter users pushed 80% of all fake news; by 2020, that ballooned to 0.3%—just 2,107 people out of 664,391—spamming out the same 80% of lies[1][2]. That’s a tripling of supersharers in just one cycle, and almost all of them fit the same profile: older, white, Republican women, concentrated in battleground states like Arizona, Florida, and Texas[2][3].
Manic Retweeting as Political Sabotage
This isn’t innocent “sharing.” These women are literally sitting at their computers, hammering the retweet button all damn day. Three-quarters of their output is nothing but retweets[2][5]. That’s not casual engagement—it’s a conveyor belt of bullshit, hand-cranked by people who apparently think their civic duty is flooding the internet with lies. Researchers found their activity spiked after the 2020 election to push election fraud conspiracies, showing crystal-clear intent to delegitimize democracy itself[2].
Who They Are
The demographic is no accident: the average supersharer is 58 years old, Republican, white, female, and richer than most of their peers[2][3][4]. They aren’t bots, they aren’t shadowy foreign agents—they’re church-going, HOA-running Facebook addicts who found Twitter and decided to play Kremlin. Researchers were blunt: they “undermine a key pillar of deliberative democracy” by drowning out everyone else’s voice[2].

So let’s be clear: the greatest threat to truth in American democracy right now isn’t coming from Moscow. It’s coming from a couple thousand white conservative women in Arizona cul-de-sacs and Florida retirement communities, who spend their golden years retweeting garbage into the bloodstream of democracy.
UPDATE: Billionaire Rob Citrone, whose hedge fund bet heavily on Argentina, pressed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, his longtime friend and former colleague, to rescue the country, according to Argentine media.
Shortly thereafter, Bessent announced a $20 billion taxpayer-funded bailout.

New York Introduces Anti-Bitcoin Mining Bill
A New York State Idiot Senator Liz Kreuger just introduced a bill to impose new taxes on Bitcoin mining firms. If passed, it would levy progressive taxes, putting the highest obligations upon the largest businesses.
The bill focuses on two issues: broader climate goals and consumer electricity prices. Taxes collected from miners would go to subsidize ordinary citizens’ utility bills.
This bill is theoretically aimed at all proof-of-work tokens. Realistically speaking, though, it concerns Bitcoin mining firms across New York State.
If passed, the bill would levy a progressive tax on these companies; whereas the smallest firms would be exempt, the largest could pay a rate more than double that of their competitors.
The environmental impact of AI data centers has taken a lot more attention than crypto mining, but it’s still a latent concern. Krueger only has one co-sponsor for the Senate bill, but she’s currently the Chair of that house’s Finance Committee. This influential role could give her the push to bring this effort through the first few barriers.
If it passes, though, such a law could have big implications. Last month, a Bitcoin mining firm and Google completed a $3.7 billion deal to construct data centers in New York. Regulatory hostility could set these plans back significantly.
