$MSTR – MICROSTRATEGY SELLS STOCK AND BUYS BITCOINS FOR 8TH STRAIGHT WEEK
MicroStrategy reported buying $209 million worth of bitcoins between December 23 and December 29, according to a securities filing Monday. That marks the eighth straight week in which the company reported issuing securities and using the proceeds to purchase bitcoins, Benchmark analyst Mark Palmer says in a research note. The latest purchases, made at an average price of almost $98,000, bring the value of MicroStrategy’s bitcoin holdings up to $41.6 billion against an aggregate purchase price of $27.9 billion, the analyst says. Bitcoin is currently trading at about $92,000. MicroStrategy is off 6.8% to $307.50.
NYDIG is about to unlock one of the largest investable pools of capital in the entire financial system—insurance float—and channel it into Bitcoin-backed loans. This is a big deal. HODL LOANS
more efficient lending → lower loan costs → less BTC sold → increased scarcity → higher demand and price → stronger institutional interest → accelerated Bitcoin adoption.

Mr. @saylor is the most genius financial engineer in history. When he gets to 1 million Bitcoin and it is sitting at 5-10 million per coin he is going to be the CEO of the most valuable company on earth.
BRITISH HODL @BritishHodl
MSTR has ”earned” its investors 444,262 Bitcoin.
When Bitcoin gets to just $200,000, this will have “earned” a value of $88.8 Billion.
Assuming they do not add another Bitcoin, the cost of that 444,262 Bitcoin has been $27.6bn.
So, what is the value of $61.2 Billion of earnings with ZERO R&D, Zero Hiring, Zero Marketing?
This is TWICE the 2023 gross revenue of NVDA without any of the headache and trust that NVDA requires on execution to generate value.
NVDA currently trades at a Price to Earnings of 55.
The same P/E would price MSTR at $3.3 Trillion.
So the real question is, do people really love AI chips, or do they buy NVDA because they want GROWTH?
@dotkrueger Bitcoin is portable wealth.
You can “opt out” of any Government, and instantly take your net worth somewhere else.
You can’t do it with real estate. Takes time to sell.
Stocks are faster, but moving large sums via banks doesn’t work.
Imagine you move to Iceland. You open a bank account and try wiring 10 million in from a US account. Likely outcome: you will be flagged as a money launderer / criminal and the money will be blocked.
Try moving 10 million in gold. That’s 240 pounds. Not exactly inconspicuous.
Bitcoin doesn’t need to transfer. You can just use it, wherever you want.
That’s something completely new. Something that has never existed before. One of the reasons why it will dominate all other assets.
Portable wealth. Think about it.
Real estate stays put, gold breaks your back, and banks treat you like a criminal for moving your own money.
Bitcoin? Your wealth travels at the speed of light, across borders, through firewalls, and past gatekeepers—while you carry it in your head.
5 main principles that make Bitcoin better than any other store of value. Bitcoin does them all better than any other assets.
Scarcity
Portability
Divisibility
Recognizability
Durability

The concept of “fiat” really goes back to the Civil War.
In 1862, Abraham Lincoln started printing “greenbacks” that were not convertible into gold, but were declared “legal tender”.
450 million of these were printed.
Amazingly, gold-backed dollars co-existed with the new greenbacks. When the North was winning, the gold dollars were worth only a 10% premium to the greenbacks. When the south looked good, the premium expanded to 300%.
In the end, fiat won the war.

As Arthur C. Clarke would say:
“Every revolutionary idea seems to evoke three stages of reaction. They may be summed up by the phrases:
It’s completely impossible.
It’s possible, but it’s not worth doing.
I said it was a good idea all along.”

I’ve never thought of derivative markets on #Bitcoin as debasement until now, but that’s exactly what it is when taking a monetary analogy to BTC.
Paper BTC serves to dilute Bitcoin’s fixed supply.
*** Exactly. BTC price rise has been due to its future promise of zero debasement around the year 2140.
Presently BTC annual debasement is 1.6% which is half of gold. USD by comparison was 2.0% this year but normally 5-7%.
Today, paper BTC exposure can now be created through futures trade contracts. This ratio to actual BTC is still low but for gold there’s at least 32x more paper than actual gold.
So viewing BTC with the same lens as a currency, BTC can certainly be debased by paper markets and has been since 2018.
In fact the SEC made a debasement attack on BTC by allowing futures ETFs while holding back spot ETFs.
Thanks for opening this discussion, it’s a big topic.
Gold is an approximation of an uncheatable distributed ledger using atoms.
But gold has a broken scarcity model.
Gold tried to be Bitcoin but the tech allows money for the internet.
Bitcoin actually IS an uncheatable distributed ledger.
