The lawsuit against student debt relief claimed student loan servicer MOHELA would lose financial revenue and harm the state of Missouri.
We FOIA’d MOHELA’s financial documents and this is simply false. After cancelation, MOHELA will earn *more* revenue than ever before.
The Republican AG suit was rushed to SCOTUS without going through a basic fact finding or legal review process.
As a result, some of the basic claims argued before the Supreme Court went untested—until now.
To put it simply, their argument is a lie.
We did the math: A conservative estimate shows in the first year after cancellation is administered, MOHELA would make $167 million in revenue. This is 88% more than MOHELA made in 2022, and significantly more than it has made in its entire history.
This is not financial harm.
This entire report is an indictment on SCOTUS who granted “certiorari before judgment,” making it less likely that “the factual/legal issues have been resolved to the maximum extent possible.”
This lawsuit “sits on a throne made of lies.”

Sen. Dick Durbin slammed the Supreme Court justices involved in recent scandals during a hearing on needed reform, saying the nation’s highest court ‘won’t even acknowledge’ it has an ethics problem.
There’s only one GOP senator backing any ethics reforms to the Supreme Court: Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
This should be a straightforward bipartisan issue. Our democracy depends on checks and balances. Now is the time to check the Supreme Court.
