The Queen is Dead
the UK’s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.
People started laying flowers at the gates of Buckingham Palace.
The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.
Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96, surrounded by her family at her Scottish estate of Balmoral. She will be succeeded by her oldest child, Prince Charles.
