The Texas secession bill was announced in January and the Texas Republican Party endorsed the secession bill.
The contiguous United States’ electrical power grid is separated into three parts: Two make up the Eastern Interconnection and the Western Interconnection, and their grids power both sides of the lower 48 states.
The third grid — called the Electric Reliability Council of Texas — is an electrical island that powers Texas, and it remains separate from the other two.
ERCOT was formed in 1970, in the wake of a major blackout in the Northeast in November 1965, and it was tasked with managing grid reliability in accordance with national standards. The agency assumed additional responsibilities following electric deregulation in Texas a decade ago. The ERCOT grid remains beyond the jurisdiction of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which succeeded the Federal Power Commission and regulates interstate electric transmission.
Why Does Texas Have Its Own Power Grid?
Basically, Texas has its own grid to avoid dealing with — you guessed it — the feds. But grid independence has been violated a few times over the years.

Over 80% of Texas power is from non-renewables.

There’s wind-generated power in Texas too… but it’s now frozen. exas over invested in wind farms. They were at 28% wind in 2019.
The problem is never climate change, and when they get another government handout, they’ll still claim the blue states are the drag on our economy.
4 million without power—Texas could have invested in at least 3 things for its frozen wind turbines:
1) water resistant coating on blades
2) more de-icing drones
3) upgrades in heating packages
If they can work atop snow-covered Alps. They can work in Texas.
