HACKED

The Internet Archive is under attack, with a breach revealing info for 31 million accounts A pop-up message said the online archive has suffered ‘a catastrophic security breach,’ as its operators say the site has been DDoS’d for days. Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle confirmed the breach and said the website had been defaced with the notification via a JavaScript library.
Here’s what the pop-up said:
Have you ever felt like the Internet Archive runs on sticks and is constantly on the verge of suffering a catastrophic security breach? It just happened. See 31 million of you on HIBP!
HIBP refers to Have I Been Pwned?

Update: @internetarchive ’s data has not been corrupted. Services are currently stopped to upgrade internal systems. We are working to restore services as quickly and safely as possible. Sorry for this disruption.

Fidelity says data breach exposed personal data of 77,000 customers
Fidelity confirmed that a total of 77,099 customers were affected by the breach, and its completed review of the compromised data determined that customers’ personal information was affected. When reached by TechCrunch, Fidelity did not say how the creation of two Fidelity customer accounts allowed access to the data of thousands of other customers.
In another data breach notice filed with New Hampshire’s attorney general, Fidelity revealed that the third party “accessed and retrieved certain documents related to Fidelity customers and other individuals by submitting fraudulent requests to an internal database that housed images of documents pertaining to Fidelity customers.”
Fidelity said the data breach included customers’ Social Security numbers and driver’s licenses, according to a separate data breach notice filed by Fidelity with the Massachusetts’ attorney general.

CISA: Hackers abuse F5 BIG-IP cookies to map network devices

CISA is warning that threat actors have been observed abusing unencrypted persistent F5 BIG-IP cookies to identify and target other internal devices on the targeted network. By mapping out internal devices, threat actors can potentially identify vulnerable devices on the network as part of the planning stages in cyberattacks. “CISA has observed cyber threat actors leveraging unencrypted persistent cookies managed by the F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) module to enumerate other non-internet facing devices on the network,”

ELECTION

Trump’s grift: turning politics into personal profit, one scam at a time.

King of Pain Trump would send Trump Casino charter buses to places like Kentucky and Pennsylvania for free rides to Atlantic City. Once he was done sucking people’s Social Security checks into his rigged slot machines, Trump would send them home broke without so much as a free buffet lunch.

Trump in trouble. It was announced that Kamala Harris broke records, raising $1 billion for her campaign in less than 80 days on the campaign trail. Meanwhile, OpenSecrets and the Associated Press reported that Trump’s camp may be suffering from some donor fatigue.

Gov. Walz: We just found out Trump had his branded Bibles printed in China. This dude will even outsource God. But hey, I don’t blame Trump for not noticing the ‘Made in China’ sticker. They put them on the inside, a part of the Bible that he’s never looked at.

Obama: Constant attempts to sell you stuff. Who does that? Selling you gold sneakers and $100,000 watch and most recently, a trump bible. You know, he wants you to buy the word of god, Donald Trump edition.

Barack Obama @KamalaHarris doesn’t have “concepts of a plan” for the American people – she has actual plans to make your life better. And she’s more than ready to be President. Let’s help her get elected: KamalaHarris.com

Trump ally Roger Stone was just caught on tape saying Republicans are purging 1 million voters from the rolls in Florida and plan to do the same in North Carolina, Nevada, and Wisconsin. WHERE IS THE MEDIA????

Cards Against Humanity offers payouts to new swing-state voters, responding to Musk’s PAC
The progressive card game company is paying new voters who come up with plans and disparage Donald Trump online.
Elon Musk embraces Donald Trump
The company behind the game Cards Against Humanity is aiming to one-up Elon Musk with its plan to pay blue-leaning swing-state residents who make voting plans and agree to publicly condemn Donald Trump.
The company announced an initiative Tuesday to encourage people who didn’t vote in 2020 to go to the polls this year by handing out up to $100.
On a website created by the game company, eligible voters are asked to provide their personal information, which is then checked against voter data that the company said it bought from a data broker. “You wouldn’t believe how easy it was for us to get this stuff,” the website said.
If eligible voters didn’t vote in 2020, Cards Against Humanity offers them a payout, provided they write apologies for not having voted four years ago, create voting plans and publicly post “Donald Trump is a human toilet.” If the voters lean blue and live in swing states, they can earn more money. According to the website, over 1,700 eligible voters have already participated.
Cards Against Humanity is also selling a $7.99 card game expansion pack with cards themed to the election. It said the proceeds from the expansion pack, which go to the company’s super PAC, will contribute to the voter initiative.

No wonder the “great one” is spending all his time with Trump now. The next great con man, along with Thiel, Sacks and Ackman.
Robotaxi day was a total Snoozefest.
After over 10 years of Full Self-Driving development, @Tesla is limited to a 20-30 acre geofenced 5mph ride on a preprogrammed, premapped and heavily rehearsed route with no traffic and no pedestrians.
1950s Disneyland guests would be unimpressed.
Tesla is not a player in the robotaxi market because they are prohibited from running on public roads. Tesla is limited to yawn-inducing demonstrations in Hollywood studios while its competitors’ robotaxis transport 100,000 paying customers around major American cities every week. For all the hype that @elonmusk puts behind Tesla Full Self-Driving, it does not work.

Smart TVs are spying on everyone
Regulators know this is a nightmare and have done little to stop it. Privacy advocacy group wants that to change. Smart TVs are watching their viewers and harvesting their data to benefit brokers using the same ad technology that denies privacy on the internet.
In a report titled “How TV Watches Us: Commercial Surveillance in the Streaming Era,” the Center for Digital Democracy (CDD) outlines the expansive “commercial surveillance system” that has infested Smart TVs – aka connected TVs or CTVs – and video streaming services.

LinkedIn: If our AI gets something wrong, that’s your problem
Artificial intelligence still no substitute for the real thing
Microsoft’s LinkedIn will update its User Agreement next month with a warning that it may show users generative AI content that’s inaccurate or misleading.
LinkedIn thus takes after its parent, which recently revised its Service Agreement to make clear that its Assistive AI should not be relied upon.
LinkedIn, however, has taken its denial of responsibility a step further: it will hold users responsible for sharing any policy-violating misinformation created by its own AI tools.
The relevant passage, which takes effect on November 20, 2024, reads:
Generative AI Features: By using the Services, you may interact with features we offer that automate content generation for you. The content that is generated might be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, misleading or not suitable for your purposes. Please review and edit such content before sharing with others. Like all content you share on our Services, you are responsible for ensuring it complies with our Professional Community Policies, including not sharing misleading information.

Wildlife populations plunge 73% since 1970: WWF
The report found that populations under review had fallen 73 percent since 1970, mostly due to human pressures
Featuring data from 35,000 populations of more than 5,000 species of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish, the WWF Living Planet Index shows accelerating declines across the globe.
In biodiversity-rich regions such as Latin America and the Caribbean, the figure for animal population loss is as high as 95 percent.
The report tracks trends in the abundance of a large number of species, not individual animal numbers.

Logan Act: Why it could be illegal for Trump to call Putin

Susan Rice: Trump’s reported calls with Putin appear illegal

Former White House adviser and United Nations ambassador Susan Rice called out former President Trump over a report that he has spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin at least seven times since leaving office, suggesting such calls would violate the Logan Act.

F’ing BUSH WON’T ENDORSE KAMALA CAUSE HE IS NAZI LOVER.

How Bush’s grandfather helped Hitler’s rise to power
This article is more than 20 years old
Rumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today’s president
Ben Aris in Berlin and Duncan Campbell in Washington

George Bush’s grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company’s assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

The evidence has also prompted one former US Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator’s action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

The debate over Prescott Bush’s behaviour has been bubbling under the surface for some time. There has been a steady internet chatter about the “Bush/Nazi” connection, much of it inaccurate and unfair. But the new documents, many of which were only declassified last year, show that even after America had entered the war and when there was already significant information about the Nazis’ plans and policies, he worked for and profited from companies closely involved with the very German businesses that financed Hitler’s rise to power. It has also been suggested that the money he made from these dealings helped to establish the Bush family fortune and set up its political dynasty.

Remarkably, little of Bush’s dealings with Germany has received public scrutiny, partly because of the secret status of the documentation involving him. But now the multibillion dollar legal action for damages by two Holocaust survivors against the Bush family, and the imminent publication of three books on the subject are threatening to make Prescott Bush’s business history an uncomfortable issue for his grandson, George W, as he seeks re-election.

It’s about how, for all the bluster about culture wars in education, that’s really being used as cover in red states to enact universal school vouchers & disinvest in public schools.
