Folklife Professional Development for K-12 Wisconsin Teachers

Ruth Olson, I and colleagues are announcing the next annual WTLC offering, our 10th anniversary of yearly folklife professional development for K-12 Wisconsin teachers. Most of those years, like this one coming up, have been a week’s cultural tour of a region within Wisconsin. Lots of work to make these happen but really worth it for the impact they have on teachers.
Wisconsin Teachers of Local Culture invites you to be a part of WTLC’s 2016
Changing Landscapes, Changing Lives
June 21 – 24, 2016
Be a part of this inspiring, informative, and immersive professional development event.
Why? Because you’ll:
* Have fun.
* Gain a richer understanding of the diversity of Wisconsin lifeways.
* Learn ways to study local culture you can use with your students.
* Get practice using a free photo-mapping tool you can use with your students.
* Become part of the WTLC statewide network of locally-focused educators
* Optionally earn two graduate credits.
This four-day cultural tour will begin and end in Eau Claire, and explore cultural communities throughout north-central Wisconsin.
Just a few of the highlights are:
* tours of the Somali community’s mosques in Barron
* an overnight in hand-built Finnish architecture lodges in Brantwood
* a visit with Lac Courte Oreilles educators and artists
* fun with the Czech community in Haugen
* experiencing an Amish-Mennonite produce auction in Withee
Cost to participants is only $200.
Registration deadline is May 5. Registration form is available here.

Why Bernie Sanders will Win!

Investors are in Denial about China
Back in 2009, as China unleashed a massive fiscal stimulus and investment spree in response to the global financial crisis, the rest of the world was all too willing to believe the impossible.
However, as with so many previous bouts of irrational exuberance, this time wasn’t really different. The ruthless rules of supply and demand still applied. And now, the longer that painful decisions are delayed, the harder they’ll become.

Bernanke won’t admit which banks got 2.2 Trillion dollars 2.2 trillion of dollars in loans from the Fed. Bernanke won’t tell him. He’s also angry that banks that get tax payer funds for nothing, are charging credit card customers 25% interest. Also discusses A.I.G. and who got those credit Defautl swaps. He also demands to know why Bernanke didn’t raise the alarm when the Bush Administration was claiming the economy was sound when it obviously wasn’t.

Alan Greenspan’s Apology

Now, with China’s economy slowing and the prices of everything from oil to metals plummeting, the bills are coming due. The rest of the world needs to face up to some new realities. Producers around the world haven’t faced up to the new normal. Companies and countries alike need to face up to their own irrational exuberance. Failing to address the global supply glut only increases the risk of a larger correction.

It’s no secret that anarchists don’t like states. In fact, we anarchists are generally defined by our rejection of, and opposition to state institutions, such as governments, police, and prisons. But while opposing these physical manifestations of the state is certainly an important part of anarchist practice, anarchist critiques of the state go much further, and include the underlying social relationships and ideologies that have historically been used to create states, and to uphold their authority. One of the most important of these concepts is nationalism. So what is it, exactly, and what do anarchists have against it?

CNBC analysis: Don't trust those GDP numbers

But my Econ teacher said this is how the world works?
Economist-types totally discount personal experience as gauge of economy but happily use fantasy hedonic, birth/death & seasonal adjustments.
CNBC should do more of this kind of stuff and less “Filthy Rich”. #GDP
